Discover how Agilistic supported a £100m data migration programme for HMRC, streamlining workflows, enhancing visibility, and shifting teams from rigid waterfall to continuous Agile delivery.
The Requirement
With a £100m data migration programme in flow, Agilistic's expertise was required to come on board and help run projects on the ground using an Agile framework.
Within a short time it became very apparent that, although there was a real top down thirst to deliver such a large programme efficiently and effectively within a 2 year time frame, the reality was that programme leaders were somewhat hamstrung on a legacy government ethos and mindset of Prince II or Waterfall delivery, with pain points in every direction, and poor visibility of the programme in situ as well as complex and mis-guided methods for prioritisation.
Agilistic approached the programme leads with a proposal to map out current workflow of the portfolio onto a Kanban board.
Problems solved
Three workshops later and the programme had an end to end view of status, with WIP limits of project teams, a revised model for prioritisation and most of all clear visibility of the pain points, enabling the programme leads to make key decisions at the right moment, control workflow and prevent sneaky queue jumping.
On the ground, we also worked with project teams to build in an Agile framework, working closely with customers (HMRC lines of business) to help change behaviours and mindsets towards a more fluid stream of providing value continuously. This was a great shift from the more traditional methods of waterfall and the positive reaction and impression made was felt right across the department.
